I debated long and hard about whether I should write this diary… and then whether or not I should publish it, and I'm still not sure, but I’m writing carefully (and soberly) as I feel that this is a point that must be made, and this seems like the best way for me at least, to get it across.
Many years ago, according to his biographers, Jesus said, “It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than it is for a rich man to enter heaven.” Jesus used this technique a lot. In logic, it’s called reductio ad absurdum, which is the art of taking an argument to its absurd extreme to show that the conclusion is actually false. I like to call it the Diva-Bate, cause we divas love to debate, and we love to make things big.
So we know that when Jesus (allegedly) made this stament, he was using a metaphor or making a comparison. While we can see it, his followers didn’t know that’s what he was doing and were quite upset at Jesus’ conclusion. Nobody thinks that Jesus meant a real camel, or that he meant a real needle. Jesus had been talking with a “Rich Young Ruler” who thought his money was going to buy him into heaven. So Jesus got all reductio on his absurdum.
Recently, in the wake of the terrorist act in South Carolina, Governor Nikki Haley, had this to say about the confederate flag and the terrorist who used it as justification to kill nine innocent people after first having a Bible study with them:
For many people in our state, the flag stands for traditions that are noble. The hate-filled murderer who massacred our brothers and sisters in Charleston has a sick and twisted view of the flag. In no way does he reflect the people in our state who respect, and in many ways, revere it.But let’s look at his logically. Let’s break it down reductio-style. Give me an absurdum beat!
